Petrified Forest National Park, AZ

The Petrified Forest National Park, in the Navajo & Apache countries in Arizona, is an incredibly beautiful “drive thru” park that if you’re in the area you should visit! There is an over abundance of pull off spots for hiking, photography, picnicking, geocaching & bathroom breaks.  The park is known for its fossils, especially of fallen trees, that lived in the Late Triassic period of the Mesozoic era, about 225 million years ago. You can even find actual petroglyphs in the park, which amazed us!

One thing I really love about this park is that it’s pet friendly! Simply sign your pet up to be a Bark Ranger at the visitors center and they can enjoy everywhere you go, with the only exception of public buildings. I know our girls enjoyed stretching their legs!

Some of the petrified trees had the most stunningly beautiful colors to them, almost like geodes.

Can you believe this is/was a tree!

There are fun exhibits and small museums at the visitors centers (as there seems to be at almost all of the parks we’ve been to) as well as lovely structures along the drive.

We came across “The Teepees”, and they are something else!

The Petrified Forest NP is a definite must see if you’ve never been!
